Acne Laser Treatment

There are always new ways of treating acne coming out to help smooth your skin out so that it can return to its pre-acne days. While you will find that some of these methods are not effective, you will also find that other methods are highly effective. So, before spending your money on an acne treatment, you really do need to spend some time investigating it. Through this research you will discover that the most effective form of treatment is actually laser treatment because it not only clears up your acne but it also helps to mend your skin and heal any scarring or acne lesions that may exist.

Lasers work by using various "soft pulsing light" wavelengths and intensities to help "reshape" scar tissue. This makes raised scars go down and it also reduces the skin's redness in the area of the healed acne pustules.

Home acne lasers work well. They emit a low, constant frequency of red light. This light helps to stimulate collagen, which makes scarring less visible and also helps to stimulate the healing of existing acne, thus speeding up the entire recovery process. However, a home acne laser does not emit heat and thus it will not hurt or burn your skin's tissue. Instead, after using it you will feel like you have just had a refreshing facial. You will also notice that any fine lines or wrinkles will be softened.

If you would rather have laser treatments from a dermatologist, you should know that they will be very expensive yet very effective. The 2 most popular types of lasers that are used in treating acne are:

  1. Smooth beam lasers emit a series of pulses that target the area where oil is produced. Once this oil is reduced it will not be secreted onto the skin. It will take at least 3 sessions before a visible improvement occurs. Each treatment takes about 20 minutes and the effects can last up to 1 year. Unfortunately, there can be some discomfort with this treatment and redness and slight swelling may also occur.
  2. Blue Light therapy works by killing acne-causing bacteria in the skin. These treatments occur once a week for 8 weeks or twice a week for 4 weeks. Maintenance is then required for continued success. This type of laser is specific to killing bacteria and thus it is not successful in clearing blackheads or cysts or in reducing oiliness since these things do not cause bacteria. Nevertheless, 80% of patients who had this treatment did show improvement. In fact, the effects of this acne laser treatment last between 4 to 8 months. It is also nice to note that this form of acne laser treatment is painless system and it only takes 15 minutes under the laser for a full face treatment.
